Antalya Lip Lift

As we age, various deformations can occur in the skin and facial features. The lips are among the areas most affected by time. Over time, lips may sag and lose volume. While non-surgical aesthetic procedures can bring some improvements to the lips, their effects may sometimes be limited, and surgery is often among the most effective solutions.

Lip lift is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the distance between the columella (the base of the nose) and the vermilion border (the red line of the upper lip). In some patients, this distance is naturally long, while in others it increases due to aging.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate for a Lip Lift?

Patients with a long philtrum (the area between the nose and the upper lip) are good candidates for this procedure. With aging, the upper lip loses volume, and the vermilion border becomes thinner. Bone resorption and vertical elongation of the upper lip complex may also occur, making the lips appear less defined. Younger patients often prefer lip fillers, but those seeking a permanent and natural look can be eligible for surgery as well.

How Is a Lip Lift Performed?

The lip lift procedure is performed under local anesthesia in a clinical setting and takes approximately 40–60 minutes. After appropriate markings are made, local anesthesia is administered. The skin to be removed can be excised using two different techniques:

  • In direct lip lift, a thin strip of skin is removed from the upper vermilion border, making the vermilion more prominent. However, this method may leave a noticeable scar on the upper lip.

  • In the subnasal lip lift, a strip of skin is removed from the base of the nose, leaving the scar hidden in the natural crease under the nose. This method is often preferred in male patients as the scar can be camouflaged within the mustache area.

What to Expect After Lip Lift Surgery?

Patients are discharged the same day and can return to their daily routines. However, they should avoid strenuous physical activity for at least one week. Smoking is not recommended until wound healing is complete. Patients should avoid excessive lip movements (such as wide mouth opening, exaggerated lip expressions, kissing, or stretching the lips while brushing teeth) for one week after the procedure.

Are There Any Risks Associated with Lip Lift Surgery?

Risks after the procedure are minimal. As with any surgical procedure, there is a small chance of complications such as bleeding, poor wound healing, allergic reactions, or infection.
