What Should Be Considered Before the Procedure?

What Are the Surgical Options in Double Chin Aesthetics?

• Liposuction: This method is commonly used in younger patients to remove excess fat from the double chin area. In this group, the skin typically adapts well after fat removal. In older patients, the skin may not retract adequately, leading to continued sagging.

   

• Submental Lipectomy: If there is excessive fat beneath the platysma (a mimetic neck muscle) and the muscle is lax, the fat is removed via a 2–3 cm incision under the chin, and the muscle is tightened.

   

• Partial Removal of Salivary Glands: In some cases, the submental and submandibular salivary glands may be overly hypertrophic, contributing to neck sagging. In such cases, intervention to the glands may be necessary.

   

• Neck Lift: This procedure often combines liposuction, submental lipectomy, and salivary gland removal. An incision begins in front of the ear, continues behind it, and may extend into the hairline. Additional 2–3 cm incisions under the chin may be included. Excess skin is removed, and loosened muscles are tightened. If a neck lift is needed, facial tissues should also be evaluated to determine whether a facelift is necessary.

   

• Chin Implants: If a patient has a recessed chin, the double chin area becomes more prominent, creating a “double chin” appearance. This deformity can be corrected with chin fillers or chin implants.

   

What Should Be Considered After Double Chin Aesthetic Surgery?

Cold application after surgery helps reduce bleeding and swelling. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise for one month and to refrain from smoking until the wounds have fully healed. Sutures are usually removed within 7–10 days. A neck bandage may need to be worn for 10–14 days.

An unwanted double chin or ill-defined jawline can negatively affect self-confidence. Double chin aesthetics enhance appearance by creating a tighter and more attractive profile, thus improving confidence.

In neck lift surgeries with incisions extending from the front of the ear to behind it, long-term visible scarring is rare. However, smoking or infections may increase the risk of scarring.
